The Truth about Trees

The world is experiencing a serious climate crisis, where every year more than 12 million hectares of forest are destroyed by fire. Bosques Sostenibles works to fight this through reforestation. A forest devastated by fire in 2019 in the Iruelas Valley (Ávila), has served as the scenario for a dendrochronological study that has extracted information from the rings of the trees that died there. Using this data, we have brought their stories to life to give them a voice for the first time.

The University Institute of Sustainable Forest Management (iuFOR) belonging to the University of Valladolid carried out a study where the information stored in the rings of several dead trees from the devastated area in the Iruelas Valley was extracted, such as their age, the climate conditions they’ve experienced along the years or the water they had available for living and growing healthy, among other data.

Giving them a voice.

Combining the data from the study with the talent of the young writer Nagore Suárez, we reconstructed their stories and recorded them in a series of podcasts that portrayed the lives of some of these trees which died through the fire, in order to learn from their experiences and ensure that their important message spreads to every corner of the planet: the climate crisis is happening, it is critically affecting our forests so it’s crucial to tackle it immediately.
